Free eye fundus disease screening: Early Detection, Early Treatment
With the advancement of medical technology, fundus images can be analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) to detect early signs of eye fundus diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma etc. which can serve as a reference for eye health management.
Lifeline Express launched a free fundus disease screening program in Hong Kong in 2024. By the end of May 2025, more than 6,600 people in the community has participated in this program.
Eye train hospitals and medical team work side by side
Lifeline Express expanded the operations by sending additional medical team to areas where there is no station for the eye train hospital, bringing medical services closer to patients. The two eye train hospitals performed 5,892 cataract surgeries at six locations, and the medical team performed 434 free surgeries in Qingyang, Gansu, helping 6,326 impoverished cataract patients regain their sight in 2024.
This new way of working will continue to bring light to patients in need in 2025.
